The Making of Phoolkari Tales

The Making of Phoolkari Tales

Every collection begins with a feeling. For Phoolkari Tales, that feeling was joy.

Joy in its purest, most festive form — the kind you feel during Rakhi when the house smells of mithai, your siblings are finally all under one roof, and laughter echoes louder than the doorbell.

I wanted this collection to capture the emotion of Rakhi, the soft intimacy of sisterhood, and the nostalgia of growing up with shared secrets and tangled rakhis. And so began the journey of phoolkari Tales.

1. The Moodboard

The heart of Phoolkari Tales lies in its name — a celebration of flowers and folklore. I started by building a moodboard filled with blooming meadows, vintage floral embroidery, old family photos during rakhi mornings, and lots of handwritten notes on silhouettes that “feel like a hug.”

The idea was clear, soft, breezy, and emotionally rich.

2. Sketching the Story

Once the vibe was in place, I began sketching. Each style was carefully imagined to balance comfort and charm.

Long flared kurtas with flowy dupattas, relaxed co-ord sets you could wear all day, and modern cuts with subtle nods to tradition. I kept the silhouettes light and movement-friendly because festivals should feel easy — not restrictive.

I also paid special attention to the details: gathered sleeves, thread tassels, contrast piping, hand-done fabric buttons, and dainty stitch lines that elevate each piece quietly.

3. The Prints

Creating prints for this collection was the most joyful part.

We worked with four colour stories — all drawn from things I personally love:

  • Blush Garden – a soft pink inspired by bougainvillaea summers
  • Sunbeam Yellow – a bright happy hue that reminded me of marigolds and laddoos
  • Fall orange – a dreamy pastel that felt like rakhi evenings
  • Mint Fresh – a cool green, perfect for playful sisters and sweet chaos

These floral prints were created exclusively for this line — each one hand-illustrated and digitally translated on soft silk crepe and blends.

4. Sampling & Fittings: Bringing Life to the Sketch

Next came sampling — and this is where the sketches started breathing.

We tested fabric weights, checked the way every hemline moved, and made sure the outfits felt like second skin. Comfort was non-negotiable.

Our fittings were full of excitement, laughter, and endless coffee cups. The collection started feeling real the moment we saw our muses twirl in them.

6. From Studio to You

Now, Phoolkari Tales is on the rack — ready to be worn, loved, and lived in.

It’s more than just a Rakhi collection. It’s a love note to sisterhood, stories, and the softness of celebration.

And every time someone picks a piece, I hope they feel what I felt while creating it — joy, ease, and a whole lot of heart.

Limited pieces. 9 premium styles. 4 dreamy prints.

Made for Rakhi mornings, family selfies, and endless giggles.
